Important Information Regarding Kindergarten Entrance at Tindley

SUBJECT: Kindergarten Entrance Requirement

At Tindley Accelerated Schools, college starts the day our Kindergarteners enter our front doors on their first day of school. As such, it is critically important to ensure that our scholars are prepared for the rigorous opportunities and experiences that lie ahead of them in their first 180 days of school.

Per the recent February 20, 2017 memorandum from the Indiana Department Education, Tindley Accelerated Schools has adopted the following law regarding Kindergarten entrance:

I.C. 20-33-2-7 establishes a statewide entrance eligibility date for public school kindergarten and stipulates a student residing in Indiana be at least five (5) years of age on or before August 1 in order to enroll in public school kindergarten. This law allows, but does not require, school corporations to have an appeal process for families requesting early entrance.

Tindley Accelerated Schools and its three elementary schools, Tindley Renaissance Academy, Tindley Summit Academy, and Tindley Genesis Academy, have agreed that chronological age is an unbiased and equitable requirement for Kindergarten entrance.  In order to ensure consistency among our three network elementary schools, we have opted out of offering an appeal process for families requesting early entrance.

Tindley Accelerated Schools welcomes any scholar who meets the age requirement to apply for the 2017-2018 school year.

Please join us on Tuesday, November 17th for our 3rd Parent University entitled, “Understanding the Standards.” Indiana has adapted new, more rigorous state standards. We want to educate our families on this new framework so that we can assist in bridging the “Home to School Connection.”
